    HOPKINTON, Mass., March 1, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --

    News Summary:

-- The new EMC(R) Greenplum(R) Database 4.2, significantly enhancing Big
Data integration and database manageability and performance, includes a

in-database analytics; and targeted performance optimization.

need to create and manage virtual drives.
-- New Greenplum language and compatibility enhancements streamline support
of third-party tools and make migrations to Greenplum from Oracle faster

    administration of all Greenplum products.

    Full Story:

EMC Corporation today announced version 4.2 of EMC Greenplum Database, bringing to the industry-leading platform for in-database analytics new levels of Big Data integration, database manageability and performance. That means customers can run massive-scale mission-critical analysis even more easily and rapidly, thus further boosting their analytic productivity, business value and business decision-making prowess. Sitting at the heart of the EMC Greenplum family of products, Greenplum Database 4.2 includes a high-performance gNet for Hadoop; language and compatibility enhancements for faster migrations to Greenplum; simpler, scalable backup with EMC Data Domain Boost; an extension framework and turnkey in-database analytics; and targeted performance optimization.

In order to expand the range of solutions that can be created for data integration and processing and to run queries for mission-critical complex analysis, customers seek the most efficient and flexible data exchange between Greenplum Database and Hadoop, in addition to the existing parallel data access. To address this, Greenplum 4.2 now enables high-performance parallel import and export of all data (compressed and uncompressed) from Hadoop using gNet for Hadoop, a parallel communications transport. This achievement represents the industry's first direct query interoperability between Greenplum Database and Hadoop.

A key new Greenplum Database feature is the advanced integration with EMC Data Domain deduplication storage systems via EMC Data Domain Boost, resulting in significantly faster (10 to 30x data reduction average), more efficient backup. This integration distributes parts of the deduplication process to Greenplum database servers, enabling them to send only unique data to the Data Domain system, thus dramatically increasing aggregate throughput, reducing the amount of data transferred over the network and eliminating the need to create and manage virtual drives (fast, inline deduplication with up to 26.3 TB/hour of throughput; backup over 173 TB in less than eight hours).

Addressing database manageability and performance, Greenplum Database delivers an agile, extensible platform for in-database analytics, leveraging the system's massively parallel architecture. With Release 4.2, Greenplum enables turnkey in-database analytics via Greenplum Extensions, which can be downloaded from EMC Subscribenet and installed using the new Greenplum Package Manager--a new utility that ensures automatic installation and updates of functional extensions to simplify the task of enabling and managing advanced in-database functionality across a cluster. Release 4.2 also supports dynamic partition elimination and query memory optimization, thus drastically reducing the data scanned for a query, significantly accelerating query processing and allowing for more concurrency.

    Greenplum Command Center

-- Greenplum Command Center is the first web-based Big Data infrastructure
management console, provides a unified administrative and
real-time/historical health-monitoring dashboard for all currently
    available Greenplum products.
-- Supported Greenplum Database administrative operations include start,
stop, and initialize Greenplum Database; search, prioritize, or cancel
any query; and recover and rebalance data mirrors.
-- Initial release of Greenplum Command Center is available with Greenplum
    Data Computing Appliance version 1.2.

EMC Greenplum Database version 4.2 and the Greenplum Command Center are available now.

Innotrac Shares Findings of Direct Response Operations Benchmarking

ATLANTA, March 1, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Innotrac Corporation , a best-of-breed commerce provider integrating digital technology, fulfillment, and contact center solutions to support global brands, today announced summary results of a custom SmartHub(R) benchmark analysis, focused around direct response operations.

SmartHub(R) is Innotrac's new proprietary benchmarking tool, providing clients and strategic partners with end-to-end intelligence and analysis of the online retail purchase cycle. From the pre-order site experience all the way through the final steps of the returns process, Innotrac's methodology analyzes each important customer touch point, charting merchants on everything from the expedience of confirmation emails, to evaluation of the packaging material used in shipment. Innotrac conducted a custom review of eleven top direct response merchants to compare with its sampling of top eCommerce retailers. Among the key findings of the study:

-- The average shipping cost for DR orders was $11.33.
-- Three out of the eleven DR orders shipped in 7 or more days , compared
with only one in twenty shipments that took as long for eCommerce
    merchants in the Q4 2011 SmartHub(R) sample.
-- Only one of the eleven DR marketers surveyed offered free shipping,
whereas roughly two-thirds of those in the Q4 2011 SmartHub(R) sample

"Free shipping has become a key conversion driver for many eCommerce retailers, but isn't used nearly as often in the direct response sector," said Jon Eggleton, Innotrac's Vice President of Marketing & eCommerce. "That's something that direct response marketers may wish to re-consider if they want to expand their market opportunities."

Multi-facility distribution is another way some marketers are able to grow market share. Split inventories have proven to minimize delivery times and freight costs for large volume marketers. For those that do not wish to replicate inventory in more than one location, facilities strategically located in the Ohio River Valley area can typically reach 40% of the country's population within 2-3 days via ground shipping.

"As the electronic commerce landscape continues to evolve, marketers will need to evaluate their distribution strategy to make sure that they are staying competitive across all channels," said Dan Reeves, Vice President of Direct Response at Innotrac. "Having access to the type of intelligence that SmartHub(R) provides can help marketers support their growth goals all the way to retail sell through."

The Direct Response SmartHub(R) analysis evaluated multiple operational categories and included top DR products from long and short form. For more information about SmartHub(R), visit

RSA and TODO1 Help Banks Deliver Trusted Online and Mobile Banking ServicesCompanies Team Up to Deliver Risk-based and Anti-Fraud Protection Solution-as-a-Service to Banks and Online Banking Customers in Latin America

SAN FRANCISCO, March 1, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- RSA CONFERENCE 2012 -- TODO1, a leading Solution as a Service (SaaS+) provider to some of the largest banks in Latin America, and RSA, The Security Division of EMC announced a technology partnership to create and offer a suite of security services that deliver world-class anti-fraud protection to banks and banking customers online. The new collaboration in the region aims to deliver a secure online banking platform with availability and reliability at service levels well above those offered by competing solutions found in Latin America.

TODO1, a leading online banking and e-services company headquartered in Miami, Florida, currently services a consortium of independent banks in countries including Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, Venezuela and the United States. TODO1 core services include online and mobile banking, liquidity management, trading and payments and collections solutions. TODO1 also offers authentication and anti-fraud security solutions for self-service channels, relationship management and collaboration solutions, and Business Intelligence services - all focused on the financial services industry.

With a deep knowledge and experience of the problems and business opportunities Latin American financial institutions face, TODO1 offers an exceptional track record of over 12 years delivering mission critical services - via the Solution as a Service Model (SaaS +) to some of the largest banks in the Andean Region.

The TODO1 SaaS + value proposition includes:

-- A business model that aligns TODO1's efforts and revenue to customer
-- A relationship model based on TODO1's on-premise expertise to support
the financial institution and adjust its security strategy on a regular
basis as fraud and security attacks evolve, thus maximizing the value
customers can get from RSA((R)) solutions
-- Business intelligence and operational capabilities that allow for
complete transparency and visibility of the service to the different
stakeholders within the bank, including real time visibility over
service performance, customer experience, service status and incident
-- Complementary services that allow financial institutions to effectively
leverage RSA security solutions to their maximum potential

"Banking consumers will conduct more financial transactions on the Internet and other emerging channels if they feel more secure. With security solutions such as RSA Adaptive Authentication in place, financial institutions in the Latin American region using online and mobile banking services will gain an extra level of confidence that their customers' financial assets and personal information will be better protected," said Roberto Regente, Vice President Latin America and Caribbean at RSA. "The software-as-a-service deployment of RSA Adaptive Authentication was a logical step forward in the evolution of TODO1's security infrastructure that continues to meet its evolving customer needs."

Felipe Uribe, CEO of TODO1, said: "We are a SaaS+ provider to some of the largest financial institutions in Latin America. Nowadays, about 63% of the total transactional volume of our customer banks comes from our Internet and mobile services. From a transactional point of view, we are their main customer interaction channel. In 2011, we processed 2.3 billion transactions from several million customers. We all want those transactions to be 'spot free', so it is natural that security is a key part of our core business. Over the last 12 years, as security threats have evolved, we have worked with several security companies. Out of those experiences we have concluded that RSA is the company with the most comprehensive and powerful security portfolio on the market."

Over the last four years, TODO1 has deployed RSA products and services to enhance security in its business platform. Given its natural expertise in the Latin American market, regulatory environment, and security threats, the company has developed strong capabilities to leverage RSA products and services. TODO1 has developed complementary services such as business intelligence and forensic analysis. Its relationship model, based on having on-site security experts that "live" within the financial institution, provide the support required by financial institutions to proactively deal with new security threats. TODO1 has also been able to support its customers to proactively block and dismantle cyber attacks. Based on TODO1's business intelligence capabilities, customers have also been able to identify the source, motivation and objectives of a specific attack, and extract their customers who may be targeted by such security events. All of these elements make a big difference to financial institutions facing cyber attacks.

"The internet and mobile channels, which are our strongest offerings, represent the lowest fraud volume offerings to our banking customers. In many cases the value of internet and mobile fraud is close to zero, even though several million users are exposed and the entity is subject to frequent attacks. We have been able to achieve that by combining and orchestrating RSA products and services with our own, placing our security experts to work alongside with their information security counterparts at customer sites, and by developing a network of expertise in the region that allows us to anticipate fraud patterns and risk. The technology partnership between RSA and TODO1 is intended to make these capabilities available to every financial institution in Latin America, large or small. Our services scale from customer with 5,000 consumers to several million," added Felipe Uribe. "Working together, we intend to make these capabilities more affordable to financial institutions in Latin America. But more importantly, we will be able to more effectively achieve results and deliver added value to our customers."

Labor Law and Security Experts Testify About Workers' Rights Violations at Loomis

UNI Swedish Commission of Inquiry Holds Three Hearings in U.S.

WASHINGTON, March 1, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Legal and security experts testified about workers' rights violations by Loomis, an armored car guard company, before a public hearing at the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. The hearing was held by UNI's Swedish Commission of Inquiry into the Labor Practices of Loomis.

The commission, which is comprised of Swedish union leaders and legal experts, was organized by UNI, the global labor federation for services sector workers which is headquartered in Switzerland. Members of the commission traveled to the United States to investigate reports of workers' rights violations at Loomis US.

Loomis US is a subsidiary of Swedish cash logistics corporation Loomis AB [STO:LOOMB]. Loomis armored car guards in California had union representation for the last 58 years, until the company unilaterally decided that it will not allow its California employees to continue to be represented by the Teamsters and is refusing to negotiate new contracts.

Loomis subsequently cancelled its employees' retirement plan, changed to a substandard health care plan that costs workers up to $700 a month, and can now terminate employees without just cause. Older employees with years of experience can be replaced by younger, less expensive employees.

Loomis guards were represented by Teamsters Local Union 150 in Sacramento; Teamsters Local Union 315 in San Mateo; Teamsters Local Union 396 in Los Angeles; Teamsters Local Union 439 in Stockton; Teamsters Local Union 542 in San Diego; and Teamsters Local Union 853 in San Jose.

At the Friday, Feb. 24 hearing, Rome Aloise, Teamsters International Vice President, said, "Loomis armored car guards chose union representation 58 years ago, and their guards continue to make that choice to this day. Even though the right to bargain collectively is a fundamental human right, Loomis decided unilaterally to de-recognize their union. I am thankful to UNI for convening these hearings and to the Commission for investigating these violations of U.S. and international law."

Wilma Liebman, former Chairman of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), testified that current case law in the U.S. improperly restricts the free choice of armored car guard to choose union representation.

Lance Compa, Senior Lecturer of International & Comparative Labor at Cornell University, testified that Loomis is violating international law and International Labour Organization (ILO) conventions.

Peter Bakvis, Director of the Washington Office of the International Trade Union Confederation/Global Unions, testified that Loomis is committing violations of internationally recognized workers' rights and added, "It is completely unacceptable for Loomis to walk away from its responsibilities when it is convenient."

Armored car guard is one of the most dangerous jobs in America. Guards are regularly robbed and shot while delivering cash. Loomis reduced the number of employees on armored car teams from three to two and sometimes one, and no longer provides workers with guns or bulletproof vests.

Jim McGuffey, an armored car and security expert, testified that Loomis front line employees continue to receive low wages and few benefits, and that once the economy begins to turn there will be a day of reckoning. "Reducing crews to one person is ludicrous and will only increase risk for Loomis guards, the public and customers," McGuffey said.

On Wednesday of last week, the UNI Swedish Commission of Inquiry also held a hearing in Los Angeles. Ron Herrera, Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters Local 396, testified about the devastation Loomis workers experience now that their job and retirement security has been taken from them, even though they put our lives on the line every day.

Kent Wong, Director of the UCLA Labor Center, testified that Loomis' withdrawal of union recognition violates U.S. law, and also violates internationally-recognized labor standards established by the ILO, the United Nations and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) multinational guidelines.

Linda Delp, Director of the UCLA Labor Occupational Safety & Health Program, testified about the risks Loomis' practices pose to armored car guards' and the public's safety.

The Swedish delegation is comprised of Alice Dale, Head of the UNI Global Union Property Services Department; Stellan Garde, former legal counsel at the Swedish LO-TCO Trade Union Confederation and Commissioner of International Commission of Jurists; Martin Viredius, Vice President of the Swedish Transport Workers' Union; Goran Larsson, International Secretary of the Swedish Transport Workers' Union; and Peder Palmstierna, former press officer of the Swedish Social Democrat Party.

On Tuesday, Feb. 21, the UNI Swedish Commission held its first hearing in Berkeley, Cal.

The Moran & Bewley's Hotel Group Invests in Technology Upgrade

DUBLIN, March 1, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- MICROS Systems, Inc. , a leading provider of information technology solutions for the hospitality and retail industries, is pleased to announce that the Moran & Bewley's Hotel Group has invested in MICROS cloud-based technology to help deliver a consistent experience to customers and staff throughout its ten hotels in Ireland and the UK.

The Moran & Bewley's Hotel Group is an Irish owned group of properties operated by Limerick businessman Tom Moran and his family. There are currently ten hotels in its portfolio, located across Ireland and the UK, including the four Moran Hotels and six Bewley's Hotels which the Moran Group purchased in 2008.

MICROS OPERA, the world's most popular property management system (PMS), is already used throughout the Moran hotels and will now replace the legacy system in all Bewley's Hotels. MICROS OPERA will manage room availability and ensure that the check-in/check-out experience is consistent, fast, and hassle-free for all guests of Moran & Bewley's Hotels. MICROS OPERA also supports sales & catering and website integration across the Moran & Bewley's properties, ensuring efficient management of functions and sales in all of its establishments.

The property management system within the existing Moran Hotels was also upgraded and migrated, providing greater resiliency, reliability and performance across the entire business.

To ensure quality of service in the restaurants and bars within each hotel, the next-generation MICROS Simphony point-of-service system was installed in all ten sites.

The Moran & Bewley's Hotel Group opted for a fully hosted solution, with both OPERA and Simphony being delivered from MICROS' industry-leading European data center. This ensures that all of the advantages of a cloud-based solution are realized while it minimizing the need for investment in technology infrastructure and maintenance, and ensuring reliability and consistently high performance.

The project was completed within seven months, allowing The Moran & Bewley's Hotel Group to rapidly achieve their ambitions and have all properties on the same technology platform for maximum consistency.

"We are very confident and happy with our choice of MICROS as our expert technology service provider," stated Pat Power, Group Financial Director for the Moran & Bewley's Hotel Group. "MICROS is providing a hosted solution that allows us to concentrate on being hoteliers, without having to worry about our IT. Thanks to MICROS, we can focus on providing excellent service to our guests, while being secure in the knowledge that our technology is in capable hands."

"We are absolutely delighted to be working with the Moran & Bewley's Hotel Group on this exciting project," stated Frank Ward, Sr. Vice-President for Business Development EAME for MICROS-Fidelio UK and Ireland. "Moran Hotels has been a MICROS customer since 1990. It is a pioneer in Cloud computing, realizing many years ago that allowing its technology provider to assume the strain when it comes to running its systems would yield significant and measurable operation and economic benefits. As you would expect from MICROS, it has been a truly international project, with a team from the UK, Ireland, and Germany collaborating to provide the very best solution to the customer."

Altera's Stratix V FPGAs Break Through Performance Barriers with Industry's First Single-Chip, Dual 100G TransponderStratix V FPGAs Increase System Performance and Lower System Costs in Optical Networks

SAN JOSE, Calif., March 1, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Altera Corporation today announced the industry's first single-chip, dual 100G transponder solution implemented in a 28-nm high-performance Stratix(R) V FPGA. Altera's solution integrates two independent 100G transponders into a single FPGA, enabling optical equipment manufacturers to keep pace with network performance and bandwidth demands while lowering capital costs. A live hardware demonstration of Altera's dual 100G transponder solution will be shown in its booth #2825 at the Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exhibition/National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference 2012 (OFC/NFOEC) in Los Angeles the week of March 5.

The growing number of Internet-enabled devices today is resulting in an order of magnitude increase in network bandwidth demands and is driving the need for large-scale network-upgrades. Optical Transport Networks (OTN) allows carriers to scale quickly and support the tremendous growth of traffic on their networks. Altera's OTN solutions enable carriers and service providers to increase the number of optical links across the transport layer and support higher data rates across a variety of applications (voice, video, storage).

Altera's single-chip, dual 100G transponder simplifies the move by carrier and service providers to higher-density 100G transport by providing a fully integrated standards-based solution. The solution leverages the enhanced performance of Stratix V FPGAs and industry-leading OTN IP to increase the density of 100G transport solutions beyond the capability of any other ASSP- or FPGA-based solution in the industry. Altera's latest FPGA-based OTN offerings include 28-nm high-performance silicon optimized for transport applications, industry-leading high-speed transceivers and OTN system IP.

Demonstration of a Single-Chip, Dual 100G Transponder at OFC

Altera's demonstration at OFC/NFOEC leverages a single Stratix V GX FPGA and shows two independent transponders carrying live 100G traffic over optical fiber. Altera will also be showcasing its latest innovations in OTN IP and 28-nm FPGA technology at the show. The company will share information on key building blocks that enable system and equipment manufacturers to develop higher density and lower power optical networks for tomorrow's communication systems.

"Altera is committed to supporting optical transport networks with our leading-edge FPGAs, best-in-class transceiver technology and OTN IP," said Dan Mansur, senior director of strategic marketing in Altera's Communications Business Unit. "Our production-grade, single-chip 100G transponder is deployed today in top-tier carrier networks. Now with our dual 100G transponder solution we are able to deliver density that is unachievable with current solutions and puts us on the path to support data rates of 400G and beyond."

Altera is currently shipping 28-nm Stratix V FPGAs and OTN IP. Additional information about Altera's OTN solutions can be found on the company's web site. Ball Aerospace Ships Microwave Imager for NASA's Global Precipitation Measurement Mission

BOULDER, Colo., March 1, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp. has shipped the Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) Microwave Imager (GMI) to Goddard Space Flight Center for integration with the spacecraft.

The GMI instrument will play an essential role in the worldwide measurement of precipitation and the Earth's environmental forecasting when it launches aboard the GPM space-borne Core Observatory in 2014. The GPM mission is a joint effort between NASA, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and other international partners.

"The outstanding team working on the GPM mission is collaborating successfully to bring this scientifically important project ever closer to launch," said Cary Ludtke, Vice President and General Manager for Ball's Civil and Operational Space business unit.

The GPM mission will improve climate, weather and hydrological predictions by providing more accurate precipitation measurements from space.

"Together with the radar flying on the Core satellite, the GMI will provide a unique database to characterize precipitating particles in different parts of the world, something that is currently not possible. This database is key to obtaining unified and accurate precipitation data from the entire GPM constellation of radiometers," said Arthur Hou, GPM Project Scientist at NASA Goddard.

A video accompanying this release is available at:

Ball Aerospace's role in the GPM program included the design, development and fabrication of the GMI. Roughly eight feet tall, the conical-scan microwave instrument is a powerhouse of radiometry. GMI is designed to improve on-orbit calibration and advanced space-borne radiometry by rotating at 32 revolutions per minute, using four very stable calibration points on each revolution to calibrate the data it has scanned. This allows for temporal sampling of rainfall accumulations as well as more frequent and higher quality data collection.

GMI's design is based on successful microwave sensors built previously by Ball Aerospace including the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM), Spaceborne Imaging Radar-C (SIR-C), GEOSAT Follow-On (GFO) and the Submillimeter Wave Astronomy Satellite (SWAS).

Following launch, Ball Aerospace will provide post-delivery support at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) and launch site as well as post launch support.

Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp. supports critical missions for national agencies such as the Department of Defense, NASA, NOAA and other U.S. government and commercial entities.
